SUNY has commissioned the project of the deisign of a new nondenominational church on the campus of Farmingdale State College. The new building shall be designed in accordinace with typical functions such as offices, rest rooms, and a centeral lobby. Most importantly the new building shall be designed with three "chapels" adhearing to natural light different times of day. The college asks that the seperate chapels should use creative and inovative ways to reflect light as Farmingdale is known for its clean energy program.

Nature, from it's inception, has litterally been shaped and formed through light. Why then should our building's not do the same?

Philosophy Statement

Just as nature itself is formed in the light, my vision for this project is just the same. Orientation for each of the chapels are sorted into their respective places (i.e. Morning, noon, evening). As a contexually out of sorts campus Farmingdale deperately needs a new addition that will tie together the different aspects of the school and at the same time bring spiritual unity. In this way completeing the elipse in the heart of campus will bring life to an otherwise dead space. Frontality adheres to the rest of campus as well as the hierarchy in form which mimics that of Roosevelt hall, while the rest of the building adheres to the sun's light. Simple circulation is used in a radial fasion, the main chapel has hierarchy over the rest of the chapels by it's larger space as well as using the datum as "arms" to hold the project together.
